A meeting between President Yoweri Museveni and some members of the university non-teaching staff is scheduled to take place at State House Entebbe.

Jackson Betihamah, who heads the Public University Non-Teaching Staff Executive Forum (PUNTSEF), said Museveni summoned him along with 12 other members of the forum.

The opening of some of the public universities still hangs in balance after the striking staff vowed not to step in their offices until they are given salary enhancements like that of their teaching counterparts.

Makerere University's indefinite closure prompted the institution's students' body to demand that the university opens.

The university, according to education minister Janet Museveni, opens today for a new academic year.

Eng. Charles Wana-Etyem, the Makerere University Council chairperson, said he too was summoned to attend the meeting at State House.

President Museveni, speaking at a thanksgiving ceremony for the Minister for Presidency Esther Mbayo at the weekend, clearly stated that Government will not increase the salaries of the striking staff, saying there are important issues to be handled.
