Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) has embarked on the construction of 38 roads in Kampala City.

This has brought a smile to city residents that have been enduring various problems on these roads due to their poor states.

Aisha Nakilaga a city resident residing in Komamboga in Kawempe division told New Vision that poor dusty roads have been a challenge to them for long adding that transport fees have been too high due to the problem.

"After KCCA constructing the roads in the area, taxi drivers and boda boda cyclists will be forced to decrease the transport fees as the excuse of poor roads will be no more," she said.

Bashir Nyanzi a boda boda cyclist operating in Nateete, Rubaga division said they have been visiting garages for servicing of their motorcycles often due to the bad roads.

Nyanzi said, "We will be able to save money now that roads are to be constructed, this will not only develop us as people but also save some money may be for government taxes."

Emma Kiyingi a resident of Makindye division requested KCCA to put pressure on contractors to finish the work in time saying such projects usually inconveniences businesses especially whenever roads are closed.

The remarks were raised on different occasions on Thursday and Friday as the Kampala Minister Betty Kamya was commissioning the construction of the roads in several divisions of Kampala.

During the ground breaking at Sembera Road in Nateete, Kamya said the roads will help control accidents in the city adding that the roads will have walk ways for pedestrians.

"You should mobilize people to embrace the development by cooperating with the contractors. Some political leaders in Nalukolongo mobilized residents to go against the rehabilitation of one of drainages there and KCCA withdrew the plan which was not good," Kamya said.

During the launch, Musisi said the roads will have street lights, proper drainage systems, humps, road signs and others.

"The construction of all roads will take eighteen months. You should cooperate with the contractors to allow them finish in time," Musisi told dwellers.
