The mother of two passed away after undergoing a brain operation

The Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP) has dismissed the murder charge against the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) head of procurement Geoffrey Matovu for killing his wife Phiona Matovu.

Phiona a mother of two, passed away after undergoing a brain operation at Mulago Hospital on the 12th May 2016.

Upon her death a friend to the deceased, Joyce Nalunga, lodged a complaint at Police alleging that before Phiona passed on, she had disclosed to her that she had been assaulted by her husband in the presence of their children.

This led to Matovu's arrest and he was detained at Kabalagala Police Station as investigations into the matter went on.

However after further investigations and recording of statements from the deceased's family, a medical report or post mortem, revealed the cause of death as extensive right cerebral hemisphere infraction and liquefaction with necrosis intra cranial pressures.

The findings in the report showed that it was caused by various conditions like infection, cancer, trauma to the head.

However basing on the post mortem report the resident senior state Attorney Makindye Immaculate Angutoko stated that the complainant's evidence was purely hearsay hence advised that the file be closed and put away.
