Serere seat: Alaso wins poll petition

And after court nullified Adoa’s election, the seat went vacant ahead of a re-election.

Soroti High Court on Monday ordered fresh elections for the Serere Woman MP seat after Alice Alaso won an election petition against her rival.

The former FDC secretary general had challenged the election of Hellen Adoa in the February parliamentary elections.

And after court nullified Adoa's election, the seat went vacant ahead of a re-election.

Alaso disputed the outcome of the fiercely contested election where she lost the seat to her longtime rival by a gulf of 16,111 votes.

The FDC politician argued that the election had been marred by malpractices. She insisted that her rival bribed her way to victory.

Adoa, a prominent Teso businesswoman and proprietor of Hacyon High School in Soroti, had ran against Alaso in the 2011 elections and lost.
