Bishop irked by sex in schools

"Children are not supposed to have children," said the cleric.

The Bishop Bukedi diocese says he is disappointed by what he calls the high numbers of primary school children engaged in sex.

The Right Rev. Samuel Egesa told a congregation that boys in lower primary school were impregnating girls in upper primary, resulting into school drop-outs.

He was at Sikuda Protestant Church in Busia district doing his pastoral work.

"Children are not supposed to have children," said the cleric.

He blamed the vice on "moral decay" and wondered whether parents and teachers alike had abandoned their roles of nurturing and guiding their children.

Bishop Egesa's call to children was to love education, saying it is their best shot at a good future.

In delivering his message, the bishop also warned schoolgirls to be careful about men that offer them "small money" and "cheap gifts" to lure them into having sex with them.

He did not stop at that. Egesa also directed blame at "cult churches" which he said are using a lot of money to "confuse" primary school heads to allow them in their schools for sex education programmes.

As such, he implored school heads to report to authorities such advances.
