Employers cautioned against laying off pregnant women

The Paliisa labour office has vowed to fight against employers laying off expectant mothers.

This follows a report from two women whose names are withheld for purposes of the investigation who were layed off by their employers.

According to George Onyait, some employers send women away claiming that they cannot be effective and efficient when pregnant.

Onyait said women have a right to maternity leave and employers need not to take advantage of women getting pregnant to have them laid off.

He warned employers doing this to desist from it or risk facing the long arm of the law.
