Police fire brigade was called in to rescue the man

An injured suspected robber got stuck in a drainage channel in Naguru, a city suburb.

According to police, the suspect sought refuge in the channel to elude arrest by a team of operatives pursuing him after he reportedly tried to break into a residential house in Naguru.

During the pursuit, the operatives shot the suspect in the left leg as he tried to escape in the wee-hours of Tuesday morning.

A senior police operative who spoke on condition of anonymity said the suspected robber wanted to take advantage of the drainage channel to escape.

However, his luck ran-out when he was pierced by a sharp object while in the channel, prompting him to scream for help.

"The rubbish in the channel pierced the robber in his bullet wound and pain prompted him to scream for help. That's how we managed to locate him," said the operative.

The Police fire brigade was called in to rescue the man.
