Sports can boost tourism in the country

Uganda Tourism Board (UTB) and Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife and antiquities will use sports as a way of promoting domestic tourism in the country.

UTB chief Executive officer Stephen Asiimwe assured the State Minister for Tourism, Wild life and Antiquities Godfrey Kiwanda at the launch of Kampala Adventure cycling 2016 festival.

"The only way to promote domestic tourism is to use sports because it pulls bigger crowds and I can assure you that we shall focus on using sports to promote tourism," Asiimwe stated.

"There is no way you can market what you don't know and making Ugandans aware of what they have in their country, is the best way to promote tourism," He added.

The Kampala Adventure Festival will have its proceeds go to identifying cycling talents and developing them.

The event which comprises of 25km and 12km is sponsored by KCCA, UTB, Palms, brussels airlines and Nakumatt.
