Wakiso ex-banker killed on way back home

CENTRAL REGION - A former banker of Diamond Trust Bank has been killed by unknown people in Wakiso district.

Joseph Kalinimi, 35, was attacked and stabbed to death on his way back home.

His mother said he was coming from town and had just visited her briefly.

"He passed here before he proceeded to their home in Gangu. We had to discuss some land matters and he was supposed to come back in the morning to deliver documents to Mengo," said Anne Mukasa.

She said Kalinimi was living with his younger brother in Gangu zone, a suburb along Busaabala road in Wakiso district.

He only got to know the fate of his elder sibling the following morning, she added.

Residents said Kalinimi, a Makerere University graduate, was attacked by people they suspected to belong to the Kifeesi gang at around 11pm at Kaliddubi, a few meters to Gangu trading center.

Benon Ayebare, the Kampala South metropolitan police commander said they are working with Busaabala leaders to net the culprits.

"We have started following them up," he said. "I am sure we shall get them."

He also called on the public to assist police in operations mounted to track the killers.
