What do you do when you buy that dream smartphone? Many simply buy a nice jacket for it, and a screen guard. Not many concern themselves with how to keep the phone functioning to the best of its abilities.

Raymond Peter Balazaine and Bitaalo Timothy, retail and service centers managers at Huawei Uganda respectively spoke to the New Vision on the sidelines of the new gadgets made by the Chinese multinational firm. Below are their tips on how to get the best out of your phone.

•   Don't expose your smartphone to extreme weather

Extreme heat and cold are bad for your phone. Never leave your phone in a car on very hot days. Also, never place it on a fridge or microwave.

•    Always keep your smart phone fully charged

Avoid using a phone until it completely shuts down due to lack of power as this affects the performance of your device. Always keep your phone fully charged.

•   Smartphones need to rest

Like humans, smartphones also need a breather. At least once a week, reboot that device or (even better) shut it down for 30 minutes or so. Doing this will ensure that caches are cleared and subsystems are properly restarted. This also boosts the performance of the RAM.

•   Close Unused Apps, Programs and Processes

If your smartphone starts to slow down, chances are high that some redundant apps are still running in the background. Delete apps that you do not use; this will also save you data.

• Clear the browser cache memory

For those that browse the internet for long periods, please do remember to take time off and clear out the browser caches.

Also, avoid putting your phone in the back pocket, keeping in vibration unless you have to (like you are in a meeting). Vibrations drain the battery life of a phone. If you are not using Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, turn them off too, as these consume a lot of power too.
