Police arrest six, recover one gun from toilet

Police in a joint operation with the Flying Squad have recovered a gun which was snatched from a police officer at Nalukolongo, a Kampala suburb.

The Police raided the home of Prossy Nabaweesi in Katooke zone in Kawempe after arresting six suspected thugs who allegedly revealed that the gun was in the pit-latrine.

According to a Police officer at Katwe Police station, on April 03, thugs ambushed Cpl. Hanington Mwesigwa at Nalukolongo and beat him into coma. They took off with his AK 47.

Mwesigwa, a police officer attached to Nateete Police station reported the matter on file number CRB:230/2016.

According to Police, the gang that attacked Mwesigwa was suspected to be under the command of Ismael Mutebi.

The officer in charge of investigations in Kampala south region Benon Ayebale said: "We are so grateful that we have managed to get this gun, we are now investigating the circumstances under which these thugs operate."

According to Ayebale, the six suspects are; Festo Tushabe, a resident of Katooke zone in Nabweru, Ismael Mutebi, a member of the reserve force, Geoffrey Kawooya, Peter Kawuki who resides at Kawaala, Benard Shiroba a resident of Kireka and Asraf Kivumbi of Masanafu.

Ayebale said police have been investigating this group since last month when they attacked a Chinese factory in Buziga and robbed sh100m on gun point.

Early this month, police and the Flying Squad killed six suspected thugs and recovered three guns in Busabala, a suburb near Kampala district.

Police spokesperson Fred Enanga, said the police and the Flying Squad are working tirelessly to phase out these notorious thugs who are terrorizing nationals.
