Some members were paid twice while non-existent claimants were also paid.

The number of claimants seeking cattle compensation through Acholi War Debt Claimants Association has so far reduced by 4,000 from 22,000 members.

Henry Oluka from the office of the Attorney General heading a 24-man taskforce to carry out the verification exercise said several claimants are failing to turn up to present their particulars to confirm they are genuine claimants.

Oluka told political, religious and opinion leaders and CSOs at a meeting in Gulu town that from their findings so far, some members were paid twice, non-existent claimants were also paid while others that have been paid are underage.

He also said that some claimants who are not members were overpaid while others received a paltry sh150,000 for a cow and yet the standard government rate is sh600,000.

Oluka asked association members to present their account details so that they don't miss out on the payment which is going to be made directly to their accounts.
