Michael Walaga’s early long range shot was the winner.

Kyambogo University registered a hard-fought 1-0 win over Uganda Christian University (UCU) on Thursday in the fifth edition of the University League at their home ground.

Michael Walaga's long range shot outside the 18-yard box was the only and winning goal of the game.

It was the first ever meeting of the two sides in the University League. Victory for Kyambogo took them top of the group with eight points in four matches played so far.

UCU are in second place with six points in four games. Makerere Business School (MUBS), also in the same group, have a game in hand and with four points in three matches.

Geofrey Komakech will rue his missed opportunities, particularly one where he had to tap in from a Joshua Kirathe cross.

In the 18th minute of the game, Walaga was fed in from the midfield and blasted a shot from yards out to beat UCU keeper George Tumwine to make it 1-0.

He almost made another chance moments later count but this time, the Tumwine was alert.

Kyambogo were dominant in midfield and appeared the hungrier, more aggressive side.

In fact, they should have had a better score had substitute Abdul Semakadde turned in with 15 minutes to go.
