'Quack doctor' arrested over murder

Preliminary investigations show that Peter Oyirwo did not finish university.

Police in Hoima district are holding a man alleged to be a quack doctor following the death of a patient in a botched operation.

Peter Oyirwo, 28, from Kigorobya sub-county is being accused of leading to the death of Dhuruka Dhancil after he operated on him of hernia.

Dhuruka is said to have approached Oyirwo at Manga David Livingstone drug shop in Kigorobya complaining of a toothache and hernia.

Oyirwo reportedly extracted Dhuruka's bad tooth and promised to operate on him (hernia) the following day.

Julius Hakiza, the Albertine region police spokesperson, said that Oyirwo went to Dhukura's home and operated on him at a sh250,000, receiving sh100,000 cash as the initial pay. The health of the patient however deteriorated and he passed on.

Oyirwo was arrested when he went back to collect the remaining amount of money.

Police's Hakiza said that Oyirwo, who according to preliminary investigations indicated dropped out of school during university, will be taken to court soon.
