Health officials in Masaka have revealed that the strange disease that has been killing people in the district is typhoid.

The disease has so far claimed six people from Buwunga sub-county in Masaka district.

The first victim died at Mulago National Referral Hospital according to the Masaka District Health Officer, Dr Stuart Musisi.

The Masaka Regional Referral Hospital Principle Administrator, Elijah Mugisha said that samples taken from the victims indicate that the disease is a rare type of Typhoid and not Ebola, Marburg or the Rift Valley Fever.

The blood samples were taken from the deceased and tested at the Entebbe-based Uganda Virus Research Institute (UVRI) last week.

Those suffering from this disease are admitted in the isolated center at Masaka Hospital.

They are steadily improving and could be discharged soon according to the Masaka District Health Officer, Dr. Stuart Musisi.
