Travellers using ferries plying the Lukku-Bukakata, south of Kalangala district, are worried about the ever increasing water levels on this route.

It has become a routine for travellers to remove shoes and wade barefooted in water to reach the ferry.

James Kinobe, one of the travellers described how risky it is to travel using this ferry. He explained that where the ferry dock is too slippery and passengers have fallen victim.

"This has mainly affects ladies, they normally fall in water," Kinobe said.

The increased water levels have also affected buffer zones which have been flooded leaving many households homeless.

Willy Lugoloobi chairperson kalangala district has urged the government to deploy policemen from marine for emergencies.

He appealed to the ministry of Works and Kalangala Infrastructure service to jointly find a way of how to control water at the docking site.

"If it is possible to construct water barriers at the docking sites, let the ministry do it, because this is too risky," Lugoloobi said.

However When Meddie Kayondo the PRO kalangala Infrastructure service  was contacted, he said the problem was due to increased water level.
