Those that are contesting have spoken out about what they intend to do in case they are voted to power.

This year's guild race has attracted 12 contestants from different colleges. They are seeking to become the next student leader for 2016.

Fred Luyinda (Go Forward)

Luyinda Fred is a student of business administration. He says he is working with Go Forward to make sure that his dream of becoming guild president comes to pass.

He wants to improve on student's welfare and make sure that facilitation for student's needs is catered for.

He is calling for more security around the institution because theft of students' property has increased in recent times.

Dick Rogers Ainomugisha (FDC)

Ainomugisha is a second year student of social sciences. He came on FDC ticket through primary elections that were held before the nomination exercise.

He says his manifesto is to make sure that funding towards research is increased because students pay for it through functional fees.

Roy Ssemboga (medicine student)

Ssemobga is the former chairman of the Makerere University electoral commission. He was in charge of last year's polls.

The Young leader from Uganda Young democrats (UYD) says he has come to change the fading image of Makerere.

He says he was leadership that is based on hard and accountability.

Simon Ssenyonga (independent)

The bachelor of law student says he is the right person to succeed Bala, the outgoing guild President.

He says he wants to set up a strong student's leadership that will work on students needs.

He also wants better service delivery of the University management towards the students.

Abel Mandela Bainomugisha Nkunda (NRM)

 

He says the 100% tuition fees policy will not work if voted to presidency. He also says privatization of halls of residence will increase the cost of having a degree. 

Umar Nsubuga (independent)

Wants students to vote for credible leaders who know their problems.

Says University Council must come up with fair policies towards the students.

Bazil Biddemu Mwota (independent)

The bachelor of Education student says he will probe how technology fees have been used by the university

He says Management should be investigated for failure to use development fees as many halls of residences are in bad state.

Ismail Kasozi (independent)

The Dread locked singer says he is the only credible candidate to stand because he is tried and tested.

He is calling for better service delivery for the students.

Brian Nassala (independent)

Good leadership, accountability and security

Dennis Kiyingi (independent)

Good meals, accommodation and student's welfare.

Shafik Kalyango

To promote talents through sports promotion.

Peter Nviiri Sos
