Andrew Felix Kaweesi, the Kampala Metropoiltan Police acting commander, has said FDC presidential candidate has been placed under preventive arrest to stop him from causing chaos, and will be held until results are announced tomorrow.
He said from FDC offices Besigye, who was arrested together with party president Mugisha Muntu, Wasswa Birigwa and Ingrid Turinawe, was taken to Nagalama police station.

"He has been taken to Nagalama police station under preventive arrest and we shall detain him until results are announced tomorrow to prevent him from causing civil disobedience," Kaweesi said.
He said they were blocking FDC from creating an illegal tally centre and people congregating at the offices. "No supporters are supposed to assemble at the offices in the meantime," he said.

Earlier police surrounded the offices as the officials were holed up there, with reports indicating they were going to address a press conference.
FDC polling agents were also reported to have been returning to from different polling stations with declaration forms.

After protracted negotiations between Kaweesi and the officials a police VIP van drove into the premises and later drove away with them.
Police has now taken over the offices.
