Women's football: She Corporates end UCU's winning streak

Feb 08, 2016

The hosts were keen to keep at bay Cardinals’ leading scorers Mwanzi Millicent and Kinavudori Moureen.

She Corporates have put a spanner in the works of rivals UCU Lady Cardinals who until Sunday had enjoyed an unbeaten run in the FUFA Women Elite League.

The tie was rescheduled to Sunday, having earlier been planned for Saturday.

An early 3rd minute goal by Namubiru Aisha proved the match winner to effectively bring to an end the Cardinals' brilliant run.

It's their first defeat in five games since the start of the season.

The hosts were keen to keep at bay Cardinals' leading scorers Mwanzi Millicent and Kinavudori Moureen, never letting them to creep dangerously to their goal.

Tina Nabirige stood out as a significant channel of threat for She Corporates, often causing trouble in the opponents' defense.

It wasn't a good day at work for Cardinals assistant captain Achieng Kiiza whose poor marking allowed Aisha to beat keeper Cissy Nakiguba for an early opener.

From then on it was a tug-of-war between the two sides, with the visitors intent on finding the equalizer and the home time pursuing a second.

In fact, much of the second half saw the Cardinals press hard for a leveler. They almost got it via Mwanzi, but the attacker's lovely goal was disallowed for offside.

Next up, the Cardinals will travel to Buikwe Red Stars while She Corporates will play Wakiso FC.

Reactions

She Corporates coach Ongodia John: "The game was good though it was physical but thank God we won it. They [Cardinals] said that we would lose to them three-nil but we have managed to get three points from them."

UCU head coach Tonny Membe: "The few mistakes we made costed us and we lost the three points. Let's think about the next match. We cannot change the past."
