Women's league: UCU return against Rhiness

Jan 29, 2016

The Cardinals have picked up maximum points from three games played and they are raring to sustain that momentum.

UCU Lady Cardinals are back in action today after a long break from the FUFA Women Elite League.

They will play Rhiness Gafford Ladies FC at home - UCU grounds - later on Friday.

UCU are facing a side that have just been called to the league because some teams pulled out.

The Mukono-based women's outfit had to take a break from the league in order to participate in the university games at Busoga University.

Leading the Elizabeth Group, the Cardinals are looking to pulling further away from their main rivals She Corporates and Buikwe She Red Stars.

Kawempe Muslim FC are the defending champions.

The Cardinals have picked up maximum points from three games played and they are raring to sustain that momentum.

The other group is Victoria and has eight teams. The league was split into groups to reduce the costs incurred by teams due to the distance between teams.

Cardinals' head coach Tonny Membe said his team is geared up for the tie against a less experienced side.

"We are going to reach our target this season if the girls go by the spirit of hardwork. Since the team we are going to play is new, it lacks the experience of the league and match fitness."

Midfielder Catherine Nakirwidde is a doubt for today's game due to fitness - but she could be benched.

For a team that has conceded the lowest number of goals (one) so far this season and netted eleven, UCU will prove a hard nut to crack for visitors Rhiness.
