Uganda's chances of fielding a bigger number of participants ahead of the 2016 Paralympics games in Brazil have continued to get better.

This follows a report by the Uganda National Action on Physical Disability (UNAPD) sports administrator Opoti Acoka highlighting how sports has brought persons with disabilities together and why they need to be supported in their bid to fight stigma.

"Besides achievements in architectural designs and rehabilitation healthcare, sport's has taken a centre point in fighting stigma amongst the disabled.

I believe taking them to international events will continue to boost their instinct and also help them discover their hidden potentials," Acoka stated during UNAPD's two year assessment report in Kampala.

She added that they have among others managed to tap potential athletes for amputee soccer, sitting volleyball, athletics, bocia, table tennis and wheelchair basketball for spiral injuries in various districts countrywide that they expect to field on the Uganda team ahead of the major event.

The half day workshop was honoured by among others the National Council for the Disabled chairman, Candria Goffin who also promised to appeal for government support and later appealed to the public not to segregate persons with disabilities.

"One is not disabled until he or she is dead, we are all able only that we might not be able to do something's as fast as the able bodied can," Goffin said.
