PRESIDENTIAL candidate Amama Mbabazi has dismissed allegations linking him to Brig. Noble Mayombo’s death in 2007.

While campaigning, in Fort Portal on Tuesday, Mbabazi said: "There is rumor that I had a hand in Mayombo's death, but I want to tell you that Mayombo was my friend. The one saying I had a hand is Satanic. If it happened, why didn't government implicate me?" Mbabazi asked.

Mayombo who was the Permanent Secretary in the Defence ministry died of acute pancreatitis at Agha Khan Hospital in Nairobi. But his sudden illness and death sparked off speculation of possible poisoning. The probe report on his death has not been made public.

Mbabazi promised to compensate families of the students who were killed in 1998 when the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) rebels attacked Uganda Technical College-Kicwamba.

He revealed that the victims of the Kicwamba attack deserve compensation which government has failed to honour for a long period.

"It is now close to 20 years, and there has never been compensation for the students who lost their lives when the ADF attacked the college. But if I come into power I will compensate those families," Mbabazi said.

On, June 8, 1998, the rebels raided Kicwamba and burnt to death 80 students in their dormitories and abducted over 100 others.

Jamil Mukulu, the  leader  of the  ADF  is currently detained  at Nalufenya Special  Operations  Command Center  in Jinja  following his  extradition  from Tanzania  where he was arrested  mid this year.

Mbabazi said he will fight land grabbing and corruption in the country and improve the education standards.

"Land grabbing will be stopped by my government, many people have suffered yet government is looking on. We will not allow this to continue," Mbabazi said.

He asked the people of Toro to support his move to oust incumbent President Yoweri Museveni, his erstwhile political ally from power.

"The choice in 2016 is very clear, change or no change. Come February when I am voted you will say bye to corruption. And with no corruption we shall be able to pay well our teachers, police and all the civil servants," Mbabazi said.

Mbabazi appreciated the NRM government for the efforts it has made to develop the country but said it is time to change for more progress.

He however condemned the intimidation caused by the NRM chopper that landed at the Boma grounds before the rally.

"You shouldn't be intimidated, Ugandans should be left to enjoy their peace," Mbabazi said.

The chopper is said to have dropped Rtd Lt Gen Henry Tumukunde who delivered unidentified NRM party materials to Fort Portal.
