Kenyan Deputy President William Ruto has described President Yoweri Museveni as a great inspiration to young leaders of the region.

“I am a follower and a big fan of President Museveni because he has a vision for our region. He has a vision larger than his country. I am a proud East African because I can clearly see where we are going,” Ruto said.

Ruto was delivering a keynote address at the 17th annual national prayer breakfast held in Kampala on Thursday.

Ruto said: “Museveni is a great inspiration to us young leaders of the region because of the clarity of his vision. His passionate talk about the need for energy to drive our economies informed our manifesto.”

Ruto reiterated his country’s commitment to the East African Integration and the common market. “Today young people of our region can cross borders with IDs. It's a big step to integrating East Africa. Last year Uganda gave us a market of Ksh60b and we gave you a market of Ksh17b,” he said.

Emphasizing the need for prayer, Ruto implored leaders to be faithful stewards of what God has entrusted them with adding that no authority on earth that God has not said 'yes' to.

President Museveni said Christians should take leadership in the emancipation of Africans by fostering unity and African integration.

“When I talked to Ruto about energy, he went to Kenya and implemented. What about you here in Uganda?” he said.

Now part of the parliamentary calendar, the breakfast is an annual event organized by Parliament to thank God for the gift of leadership and also remind legislators of their role while deliberating on national Issues.

It brings together MPs from all faiths, members of different political parties, religious leaders, high profile representatives from other countries, members of the business community and the media.
