The National Resistance Movement (NRM) electoral commission has registered 98% success in the just concluded elections for party structures, the electoral boss, Dr. Tanga Odoi has declared.

Dr. Tanga Monday told journalists at his offices on Plot 13 Kyadondo Road that the exercise had been conducted successfully right from the lowest village level to the district apart from three areas that include Rubaga Division, Amudat and Bukedea districts.

He said elections in the three areas had been marred by violence and conflict amongst the candidates and their supporters.

In Bukedea, according to Tanga, the exercise would be conducted on Tuesday, Wednesday for Rubaga Division but said that a new date had not yet been fixed for Amudat.

"We are happy to inform you that we have had a very successful exercise throughout the country because we worked together as a team," he told journalists.

After meeting stakeholders from Rubaga Division on Monday at his office, Tanga warned that he would disqualify candidates whose supporters would go against the electoral rules when they repeat the exercise at the NRM electoral offices.

"We will allow only 109 voters inside here, supporters can come but they must keep away from the polling station, we will not hesitate to disqualify a candidate who will ferry goons here," he said.

Elections for youth, workers and entrepreneurs for the division were conducted in the same venue.

Singh Katongole was battling it out with the chairperson of bodaboda riders in Kampala city, Abdullah Kitatta for the position of NRM chairperson.

Kitatta told journalists after the meeting that it was incumbent for the party supporters to work for unity of the party regardless of whether they win or lose the election.

"We need to work for unity in the party and concede defeat if we lose instead of tearing each other apart," he said.

He called upon supporters to remain calm.
