The Constitutional Court is set to deliver a judgment on July 24, in a petition seeking to oust Mawokota South incumbent MP Kenneth Kiyingi-Bbosa on ground that he had joined the NRM party by attending the party’s Kyankwanzi retreat.

The petitioner, Mustapha Ssemugenyi, who is an NRM executive member of Buwama in Mpigi District filed the petition against Kiyingi-Bbosa and the Attorney General.

He sought declarations that Kiyingi-Bbosa violated the Constitution by attending the party’s retreat from start to the end and; should, therefore, vacate his seat in the House.

However, Kiying-Bbosa denied that he ever renounced his independent status in Parliament and; therefore the petition should be dismissed.  He also argued that his attending the NRM retreat should only portray him as a dynamic leader with a team spirit. The Attorney General also asked the court to dismiss the petition.
