Uganda to host ICC World Cricket League

Uganda has been selected by the International Cricket Council to host the ICC Division III Cricket league.
 

The selection follows the successful hosting the Africa Senior T-20 and One Day International, and the Africa Senior women events in Kampala.
 

According to a press release from the Uganda Cricket Association chief executive officer Justin Ligyalingi, six teams will compete in the event; with the top two earning promotion to ICC World cricket league Division 2, which is scheduled for early 2015.

“It is a very big boost to us after hosting the ICC Africa Division One World Cup Qualifiers and the ICC Africa under 19 Boys World Cup Qualifiers last year. We are looking forward at seeing that the trust given to us becomes a reality,” said Ligyalingi.

The tournament is due on October 26 to November 2nd and will see the utilisation of the Entebbe, Lugogo and Kyambogo cricket ovals.
 

Uganda will be joined by Bermuda, Nepal, USA and the top two teams from the World Cricket Division IV to battle for the slots that will come with a better stipend and development grant from the international cricket body.
 

During the opening of the Africa Cricket Council general assembly at Hotel Africana early this year, state sports minister Charles Bakkabulindi challenged the national cricket association to start hosting events outside Africa as they have already proved their worth with African events.
 

“You have shown that you can do it and please do not relax. Go for them as they will help market the game and also the country,” Bakkabulindi had said.
