Excitement in Teso as Urban TV starts airing

Eastern Uganda - The airwaves of Vision Group’s Urban TV took Soroti by storm moments after they were switched on in the eastern Uganda town.

 News of Urban TV going on air on Monday rippled across the town as people who owned a TV set tuned in to catch the new ‘baby on the block’.

Patrick Igella, who works with AVIS Electro Centre in Soroti town, could hardly contain his excitement. “This is unbelievable! Urban live in Soroti? Oh God! This is marvelous,” he beamed.

He immediately disconnected his DSTV connection to enable him watch Urban TV which is viewed on free air.

“I love the programming of Urban Television so much because it is pro-youth. Bravo Vision Group for connecting us in Soroti,” he said.

The station went on air at 2pm local time (EAT) as the news continued to spread further throughout the town.

One resident received the news via social media.

 “I learnt about Urban [TV] being on air through the Etop Facebook page and I immediately tuned my television set and I was able to watch. It’s so clear and very interesting,” said Mary Acen of Soroti town.

Others learnt of the station’s arrival in their town from their relatives.

An excited man right away phoned his fiancé:  “Are you at home? Urban TV is on, please check whether it is picking [a signal] so that I can hurry back home for us to watch together.”

David Semugga, the head of engineering at Vision Group, says viewers in eastern Uganda can watch Urban TV on the channel 44.

“I can confirm that Urban TV is on. It is free on air, meaning that one requires having an outside antenna to enable them watch it,” he said.

Two months ago, both northern Uganda and the West Nile region were connected.

Now that eastern Uganda is also connected, it means the TV station is watched in all parts of the country, having been connected first in the central region followed by western.
