In the recent past, many youths considered  music, dance and drama no go career zones perhaps because they were stereotypically careers for ‘failures’ in school.

But today, many will stampede onto an opportunity to become the next best musician, dancer or drama actor considering the celebrity status attached to people that were brave enough to take them up early enough.

This was evident enough last Sunday as Bent Lines, a dance events management company in conjunction with Break Dance Project-Uganda organized a breakdance elimination competition at Kampala Baptist Church, in Nankulabye, Makerere.

Hundreds of youthful break dance enthusiasts turned up to witness the show down dubbed Breakfast Jam 2014 as the search for Makerere’s best break dancer took center stage.

The show, in its fourth edition started with a judge’s showcase as they exhibited their senior breakdance skills to the contenders.

Thereafter was a break dance cypher as girls and boys wiggled and rolled on the floor to show case their high level of skill.

Over 30 boys and two girls were then called forward to battle for the top 8 spots.

It was such a heated stomp that it got so tight for the judges Abrams Tekya, Felix Lutakome and Louis Masanja to select the best eight.

The battle then resumed with the top eight challenging each other, all eyeing the top spot because only one would qualify for the finale slated for the 6th and 7th of December, this year at the YMCA, Wandegeya basketball court.

The eventual winner was Eric Naganzwa aka B-boy Eric Sama and he will represent Makerere area at the finale.

The next eliminations will be held in Jinja (July), Nairobi (August), Mulago (September), Congo-Kinshasa (October) and Nsambya in November.
