Government has sent 10 people suffering from the mysterious nodding disease to the US for further medical tests. The patients travelled last Saturday and are expected back next week.

Health Minister, Dr Ruhakana Rugunda on Tuesday addressed journalists on investigations to find the source and cure for the disease first reported in Lira, Gulu and Oyam in 2009.

Brain samples from five people who died from nodding syndrome were last month flown to the US Centres for Disease Control in Atlanta.

According to the health ministry, no new cases of nodding syndrome have been recorded since 2012.
