The Kenya Sevens Academy (U-19) team won the 7s on the Nile tournament played in Jinja, during the Easter weekend.

The team that is currently in preparation for the upcoming Youth Olympics in China won all their group games, setting up a quarter final berth against the Elephants, in which they emerged 19-5 winners.

They further went on to whip Kyadondo based side Stallions 22-5 in the semi-final before over powering the Kampala based side Rams 12-0 in the final.

Team coach Nick Aballa attributed the victory to hard work and commitment of players, “it is a good outing...we got exposed to serious competition and were able to gauge our strengths and weaknesses as well as our combinations but the boys were determined. Kudos to the boys."

KRU Chairman Mwangi Muthee was impressed by the performance of his team and paid tribute to the side while urging them to maintain their focus as they prepare for the Youth Olympics.

The organising committee chairman Eddie Ochieng urged Uganda teams to work hard and put more emphasis on sevens rugby development.
