Kenya’s new World half marathon champion winner Wilson Kipsang has said that he got all the inspiration from Uganda’s Olympic gold medallist and world champion Stephen Kiprotich, who is his training partner in the Global sports camp in Kaptagat.

While the half marathon championships, Kipsang said that staying and living near a world champion is something that inspired him to fight on and perform better and also become a world champion.

“I used to train with him (Kiprotich). We always called him a gold medallist and he said that I will also become a gold medallist. It is that which inspired me to perform better and win the tile,” said Kipsang, who beat favourites Zersaney Tadase to the gold medal crown.

Kipsang clocked 59 minutes 07 seconds to win in a new world lead but he was not contented with his time.

“I am looking at performing better. I want to set a new world record and I will try in the Berlin half marathon,” he added.

He had earlier before the half marathon also announced that he was ready for the event because Kiprotich always advises them never to go to any race when they are not ready.
