KAMPALA - The internal affairs ministry is set to start the actual mass enrollment exercise and the eventual issuance of national identity cards mid-next month.

The deputy national ID project Clet Turiho told New Vision on Saturday at Kololo Airstrip that they have already received about 6,000 kits.

The kits contain computers, cameras, finger print scanners and batteries from Belgium.

“Preparations are in high gear to start this exercise,” said Turiho.

“We expect to deliver a total of 80,000 kits and enrolment materials to districts, training of supervisors and training of parish citizenship verification teams.”

The registration that was previously plagued by allegations of corruption will this time target citizens from 16 years and older.
