Athletics: Team Uganda confident of good result

Moses Kibet has said that Team Uganda will put up a good show, despite being made up of debutants in the IAAF World half marathon championships.

Moses Kibet has said that Team Uganda will put up a good show, despite being made up of debutants in the IAAF World half marathon championships.
Uganda is the only team that has full fast timers in international road running, but international media have not left it out of focus after Stephen Kiprotich's exploits in both the London 2012 Olympic Games and Moscow 2013 World championships.
"We might not have the experience in road running but we have self-belief. We did not come all the way from Uganda to just enjoy Denmark but we came here to compete for results," said Kibet, who added that though it is quite cold, they are prepared to put up a good show and will not disappoint," said Kibet.
Team Uganda, that was sponsored by Brussels Airline to the competition also has national champion Daniel Rotich, former World Mountain running champion Geoffrey Kusuro and Isaac Ayeko, who will be making his debut in an international event. Also Linnet Chebet will be competing in the women event on her IAAF road debut.

Despite being off the international scene for some time, Kibet - who won a bronze medal at the 2009 Amman, Jordan world junior cross country championships has been improving, finished third in the national cross country championships, being second in the national half marathon and being Uganda's best competitor in the Africa Cross Country.
"I was trying to see that I improve. We have trained well and we will be running as a team. What we want is for Uganda to put up a notable performance and we will be encouraging each other on that," he said.
The top six individuals and top six teams win cash prizes in the event ranging from sh78m to sh7.8m.
