39 murder cases dominate criminal appeals

The Court of Appeal is set to hold a one-month criminal session in which it is scheduled to hear 97 criminal appeals starting on March 17, according to the cause-list issued by the court on March 10.
The session that is slated to close on April 29, 2014 is dominated by 39 murder cases, including that of former Mukono Assistant Superintendent of Police James Peter Aurien who was convicted of murder, by shooting his wife and city businessman Godfrey Kato Kajubi, convicted for ritual murder of a 12-year old boy in Masaka.
Defilement cases that number 32 follow in the second place. There are seven aggravated robbery cases, six embezzlement and two manslaughter cases.
The others include two abuses of office, one forgery involving a former UTV programme director Freddie Scoofs Kavuma, one rape case, three cases of causing financial loss, one corruption case, one case of kidnap with intent to murder and one case of malicious damage.
