Decline of the west: Sign of the apocalypse

During my teenage years I read a book by the English Author David Caute, The Decline of the west, which dealt with the last days of imperialism in Africa.

He dealt with the efforts and battles by western countries to fight the inevitable tide that would lead to African independence.

It was a terribly graphic, and described in gruesome detail what Europeans did to try and break the spirits of African freedom fighters. Caute showed a people that had completely discarded any forms of civilisation, and descended into a kind of barbarism reserved for savages.

It left a huge impression on my young mind, and from that moment I started questioning everything that originated from the west. These are the people who taught us to be good people, follow the Bible and we shall live happily ever after. Now they were doing things that went against everything they stood for.

That book was published in 1966, and Caute saw that world then beginning to decline. Now, almost fifty years later, it seems that decline is becoming complete.

Two things happened over the last couple of months that shows how the west has completely lost it. First, it was reported in the media that a California man had been allowed to marry his dog, and even had a ceremony to celebrate the event.
Elsewhere in the United Sates, that great protector of human rights, a pastor allowed his flock of church goers to attend service naked, if they wanted to. Going to church naked? You kidding me?

A lot more crazy things are going on in the western world, like the Catholic church protecting priest that abused young boys sexually, while condemning anybody who used condoms while having sex.

Meanwhile it is now largely okay to marry from the same sex, but don’t dare have more than one wife. Clearly what was before considered deviant behaviour is becoming the norm.

There have been great civilisations in the past that eventually collapsed and fell but they all had one thing in common: the higher the ‘civilisation’ got, the greater the degree of hedonism the citizens enjoyed.

Hedonism in its simplest definition is basically and simply the pursuit of happiness and pleasure over everything else. To my mind that is what is happening in the west, and all the talk about human rights is actually an excuse to do whatever they feel like doing.

Throughout history mankind has been nurtured and protected by society, which necessitated the giving up of some personal freedoms for the greater good. But as those ancient civilisations did, the western world seems to be putting the pursuit of personal freedoms above the preservation of society.

And just like what happened to those civilisations, the western world is in decline, and is bound to collapse. The apocalypse will not start with coloured horsemen or a broken sky. For the western world it has already started.

In the next 40 years or so, projections show that the west will not have the bigger share of the world economy. Only a fifth of the global middle class will be living in the west, and its population will be falling at an ever increasing rate.

So for all intents and purposes, we do not have to listen to these people, or do anything they ask us to do. All we have to do is wait them out, and their pursuit for all kinds of pleasures will be the death of them.

That story about a man marrying a dog might have been just an Internet hoax, but does anyone doubt that something like that will happen sooner or later?
