Uneducated people make poor leaders and so should never be leaders as they cannot lead anyone. This statement was made by Bishop Edward Muhima, over the weekend while he was presiding over the seventh graduation ceremony of Africa Renewal Christian College in Buloba
.

Muhima who was the guest of honour argued that a community and nation’s ability to develop is retarded or progressed depending on the leader, and illiterate people are incapable of doing the latter.

He further advised the 74 new graduates who were awarded diplomas and certificates in Child Development, Computer Studies, Biblical Studies, among others courses, that wisdom is not learned in class but from the fear of the Lord.

The day also served as the official launch of Africa Renewal University in Buloba. After being licensed by the National Council for Higher Education in December 2013, the college became a university.

While advising them to further their studies, Muhima added that a leader ought to be wise. “You can be clever but absolutely unwise. There are many people who carry PHDs but keep making one foolish decision after another.”

He also pointed out the need to be creative and progressive thinkers as this would encourage the communities in which they live to do the same, reasoning that the world needs people who learn facts and  use them creatively not just  reproducing them.

The Chancellor of the University Rev Peter Kasirivu stressed the need for university education today more than ever before

‘University education is important in any individual’s life as it offers more job opportunities to choose from, University graduates generally earn more, and have greater chances at economic stability,’ he explained further adding that with university education comes the opportunity to make a difference in our society, for it is people with higher education that today’s society will allow to be politicians, managers, etcetera.”

However he divulged that university education without the knowledge of Jesus leaves a lot to be desired.

“That is the reason for Africa Renewal University- spiritual education, character education, academic and skills training. It will take a well-rounded leader to face and tackle the affairs of today’s African society.”

During his speech the University’s Vice Chancellor, Ps Jeff Atherstone said Africa Renewal University aims at equipping leaders to transform society.

“We believe that university education that is focused on Christian leadership development will bring a gospel transformation to our communities, country and continent.”

“Our commitment then is to model leadership to our students, mould them into the leaders that God has called them to be, and then to send them  out of God’s mission to share the love of Christ through the world,” he said promising that the administration’s goal is to expand the campus to host 4000 students.

The University will be offering 9 courses taking in among others, Social Work and Social Administration, Computer and Information Technology, Community development, and Community Health
