This is in response to the article that appeared in the New Vision of February 18, 2014.

It was so awful when a professor and presidential adviser refused to take an oath before Public Accounts Committee. As stewards of knowledge and witnesses of the Lord in this generation, I defend with all authority the act the Reverend /Professor as relevant to her profession.

For any Ugandan, it is under stable for the Member of Parliament to react so harshly about the mismanagement of public funds. Every Ugandan contributes significantly to raise and keep this treasury running. I want to first appreciate the role played by this committee and how, without favour, they try to bring facts to light. I attribute this to a democratic government that enables government officials to come to justice over mismanagement of tax payees’ money and abuse of office.

As an academician and Christian, I feel concerned about how facts are assumed to be bought to light by bringing valuable articles in the meeting like the Constitution, Bible and Qur’an. Many people may believe by holding it high and swearing that they are saying the truth, yet their conscience is guilty. Even you reading right now is aware how holding a Bible or Qur’an may not move you, if your motives are selfish and hidden in the heart.

According to the Bible Mat: 5:33-37 the Lord emphasises not to take oaths.

I would have expected an applaud for such a professional and reverend who respects biblical verses even in such critical times because this is actually a lesson and a challenge for Christians because many people take oaths and in a minute they are guilty of what they have said. Uganda has lost all the enthusiastically developmental intellect because people’s minds are negative.

The committee members should respect defendants who may have reasons to support their actions before they immediately rule out.

I want to thank Rev. Prof. Florence Muranga for taking such courage as a woman and servant of God to lead such a huge project. This is actually a challenge to Christians! I see a patriotic passion and a Mandela spirit reviving in Uganda because there is a lot of intrigue going on in the name of fighting corruption. This is a wakeup call for most legislative employees, because one should not look at the politics, corrupt acts and benefits to decisively take actions for the sake of pleasing someone. Where is the patriotic spirit for Uganda?
