How often do you get to hear some of your favorite country, R&B and Reggae classics on a single evening played by an above average live band backing up a multi-talented vocalist and guitarist turned country singer?

Probably a handful of times in a decade and may be once in a life time if the artiste is rising country star Ryan Turner.

The venue was Big Mike’s Bar and Restaurant on Acacia avenue in the upscale suburb of Kololo which is supposed to be inconveniencing because you’re better off accessing it with a car or standing a lengthy boda boda ride if you are the average Kampala citizen without a car.

An excited and happy crowd that watched Turner perform at Big Mikes last weekend

Not even that could stop country fans both real ones and the wannabes from descending down to Big Mike’s to enjoy a live Ryan Turner concert. It was the closest most Ugandan fans will ever come to listening real country stars like Keith Urban, Kenny Chesney, Tim McGraw and Legends George Straight and Don Williams or Kenny Rogers in a live concert.

Curtain raisers that included a few really romantic couples trying to sing their favorite country songs for the expectant crowd and a band called Freedom band that did some great country tunes led the way.

When Turner finally hit the stage, alongside the Urban Soul Band, having few known songs that Ugandans could sing along to turned to doing legendary songs like Brown Eyed Girl, Islands in the Stream, The Gambler and many more.

Along the way he blended in some of his own songs like Calling you out and Love.

He took it to another level by adding a country touch to legendary songs from other genres like Lionel Richie’s Stuck on you, Bob Marley’s Three Little Birds taking the already ecstatic crowd to a new high before he brought the house down with another classic When you say nothing at all crowning off a great night.
