A senior presidential advisor on veteran affairs, Kirunda Kivejinja has asked soldiers to save for retirement so that they do not turn into begging veterans.

Speaking at the Tarehe Sita celebrations at Mayor’s gardens in Entebbe Thursday, Kivejinja asked the soldiers to save and not bother the president for financial support in retirement.

“You are a modern army and I do not expect you to hang on the president at functions telling him that you are veterans,” he said.

Kivenjinja said the UPDF soldiers who are revered in the region for their superior peacekeeping and enforcements tactics would be judged harshly if they turn into “begging veterans” in retirement.

The function was attended by soldiers from the Special Forces Command (SFC) and Air force.
