The Police have arrested a man believed to command thugs that operate around Queen's Way in the city center.

The operation that started on Monday this week swept areas of downtown where eleven suspects believed to cause havoc on city dwellers and the business community were netted.

These are believed to attack people using knives, iron bars and robbing them of valuables including handbags, money and phones.

Speaking to journalists while parading the suspects, the Nsambya police boss, D/ASP George Omonyi said:

“I will not let city dwellers be terrorised in broad day light yet police is here to keep law and order. I am warning all thugs wherever they may be that they should dig their graves because whoever is caught stealing and tries to flee from police will be shot."

Tools of trade: some of the suspects were netted with dangerous weapons

The operation that was commanded by Omonyi together with Clock Tower police bosses saw the arrest of a top suspect, Waiswa Kajubi, aka ‘People’ who provided police with names of his accomplices.

Some suspects were picked from their houses in Katwe-Kinyoro on Monday night. Waiswa revealed that he is deputised by Amis Ngobi with whom he broke off the notorious “Kifeesi Group” that is famed for besieging parts of the city in broad day light and grabbing people's property before vanishing in thin air.

After his arrest, Waiswa said he could be cursed because he had stopped stealing in 2006 only to get caught the day he resumed his missions.

Omonyi said suspects including Richard Kambala, Zavia Onyumo, Balikuddembe Zziwa were arrested with knives, machetes and narcotics. The case is registered on file number SD:06/04/02/2014.
