AFTER two postponements, the 2013 Federation Uganda Basketball Associations (FUBA) awards gala will take place this Saturday at Imperial Royale Hotel.

Logistical challenges on the part of sponsors Castle Lite had forced two cancellations of the final, highly-anticipated event of the annual basketball calendar.

Consequently, the 2013 awards gala is in effect the second major event of the 2014 calendar, following the men’s national team winning campaign in Zanzibar’s Mapinduzi Cup opened the year.

Still, for the basketball fraternity, it will be a case of better late than never given the popularity of the event that will see the best teams and players from the 2013 season recognised.

It brings together players and coaches from all the FUBA divisions in a glitzy evening of stylish suits and dazzling dresses.

City Oil and the UCU Lady Canons were 2013’s biggest winners with the men’s and women’s NBL Championships respectively.

The gala will be preceded by FUBA’s annual general assembly.

The event will take place on the same day at Kati Kati restaurant.

Being a non-elective assembly, the gathering will be used to review the past season and to plan for the critical upcoming campaign.

Uganda will host the FIBA Africa Zone V national qualifiers and the corresponding U-18 event this year, a combined honour happening for the first time.
