THE Kabaka of Buganda, Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II, has described his visit to Bugerere County as historic.

The Kabaka, who in 2009 was blocked from visiting Bugerere, said many things have since been achieved as a result of the calmness and boldness of the people of Buganda.

The Kabaka was blocked from visiting Bugerere (Kayunga district) following a dispute with the cultural leader of the Banyala, a minority ethnic group predominantly found in Bugerere.

On Monday, security in Kayunga was tight with heavy deployment of the Police and military but there was no incident.

Mutebi affirmed that Buganda Kingdom does not discriminate any person or community on basis of ethnicity, religion or political affiliation.

“We will continue with that spirit, particularly where our culture is not despised and the kingdom’s boundaries are not tampered with,” the Kabaka said.

Mutebi was received in Bugerere at Ssezibwa Bridge by hundreds of jubilant residents, central government officials and Buganda Kingdom leaders.

Earlier, he made stopovers in Mukono municipality and other trading centres along Mukono-Kayunga road where crowds gathered to welcome him with singing and dancing.

At the bridge marking the boundary between Kayunga and Mukono, the Kabaka was welcomed by the Katikkiro, Charles Peter Mayiga, Minister of State for Lands, Aidah Nantaba, the Minister of State in Charge of Elderly, Sulaiman Kyebakoze Madada, and other dignitaries.

He then visited Kayunga Hospital where he immunised children and also donated some mattresses to the hospital and mosquito nets to parents. He named one of the babies born on Sunday, Lugoloobi.

He later commissioned a modern store built by the former Mengo minister, Nsamba Kumama, before proceeding to Galiraaya where he toured farms.

The Kabaka addressed his subjects at Bbaale sub-county headquarters.

He is expected to visit other parts of Kayunga in the next two days.
