The Uganda People’s Defence Forces has praised President Yoweri Museveni’s strategic intervention in Juba arguing that “he got it right again on South Sudan.”

Assessing the conflict dialects from the South Sudan government-captured Bor, Lt. Col. Paddy Ankunda, said on his twitter handle that although skeptics might be pouring scorn on the UPDF presence in Juba, the military intervention will deliver peace in the war-prone country.

“I trust President Museveni on strategy, he got it right again on South Sudan,” he said.

“Skeptics will doubt our strategic decision to intervene in South Sudan but we are confident that’s the sure way to peace,” he added.

Ankunda said that UPDF is now patrolling Bor and hundreds of civilians have started to return.

“Hundreds of civilians beginning to return to Bor as UPDF patrols outskirt… UN staff in Bor open up on UPDF's professional entry into town, civilians begin returning to their homes,” he said.

Ankunda has also emphasized that UPDF soldiers on the mission in South Sudan are laughing at claims that 250 combatants from Uganda have been killed.

Ankunda’s remarks come shortly after the Chairperson of the Commission of the African Union (AU), Dr. Nkozasana Dlamini Zuma concluded visit to Juba on Monday.

In her remarks to both parties, the Chairperson insisted on the urgency for them to sign an agreement on the cessation of hostilities, so as to stop the senseless killings taking place in South Sudan and end the humanitarian tragedy unfolding in their country.

During her visit, the Chairperson met South Sudan president Salvar Kiir Mayardit as well as with the detainees at their detention venue.
