A stunning goal from Hlompho Kekana decorated South Africa's 2-1 win over Mozambique in the opening match of the African Nations Championship.

The Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder's second half strike will live long in the memory of those who witnessed it.

With the tie delicately poised at 1-1, he unleashed a 40-yard rocket that left goalkeeper Soarito a bemused spectator.

The goal changed the complexion of this Group A clash in Cape Town as the hosts took charge until the final whistle.

The Mambas took the lead after just 11 minutes when Diogo's deflected shot completely fooled Bafana Bafana goalkeeper and captain Itumeleng Khune.

But the hosts equalised on the hour hour mark when Bernard Parker found the target from the penalty spot.

Parker then put the result beyond doubt when he beat the goalkeeper from close range in the dying minutes.

South Africa could and should have gone to the break 2-1 up for a horror miss from Katlego Mashego.

Siphiwe Tshabalala flighted a delightful cross into the area but Mashego fluffed his lines from just four yards when it appeared easier to score.

Mozambique went into the match on the back of an intensive two-month training camp but came up against highly motivated opponents.
