Usuku Member of Parliament, Proscovia Alengot Oromait, has been named among the 20 most powerful women in Africa by Forbes Magazine.

The list which is released every year rates the 20-year-old MP from Katakwi alongside Isabel Dos Santos — the powerful and influential daughter of Angolan president, Eduardo Dos Santos— as the twenty most visible faces on the African continent.

Also named on the list is Hadeel Ibrahim, the daughter of Sudanese born British telecoms billionaire, Mo Ibrahim. She is the founding director of Mo Ibrahim Foundation, which was established in 2006 to support leadership and good governance.

Oromait alongside Angellah Kariuki, 37, are the only two politicians named on the list. Kariuki, a member of the Tanzanian parliament, is also deputy minister for Justice and Constitutional Affairs.

To make it the list of the ‘20 young power African Women’, according to Forbes, one must be innovative, daring and successful and aged 45 and below.

The youngest Member of Parliament in Africa, Oromait was elected when her father Michael Oromait died after serving only one year of the five-year term.
