NEXT summer’s World Cup winners will pick up a staggering £21.4m in prize money in Brazil.

FIFA announced the increase on Thursday afternoon as they prepared for the draw in Bahia, Brazil, which takes place on Friday.

The total prize fund at the tournament, which begins on June 12 next year, has increased to £352.25m (from £256.85) in South Africa four years ago.

The winners will receive the prize money, with the runners up picking up £15.29m.

Third place teams win £13.45m, fourth place £5.5m. Teams reaching the quarter-finals before going out of the tournament receive £8.56m.

Teams reaching the second round receive £5.5m and teams failing to get out of the group stages will win £4.89m.
Each team will receive £920,000 as a preparation fee for the tournament, which is swallowed up in logistics, planning, hotels and travel.
