President Yoweri Museveni has publicly tested for HIV in a symbolic exercise to encourage Ugandans to know their HIV status as a way of rolling back the HIV epidemic in Uganda.

“All Ugandans, test and find out your status and let the State and health workers manage you. If you are infected, they will handle you. If you are not, then take care of yourself. Risky behaviour is unnecessary. Health is wealth; when you are healthy, you are productive. To be careless to get short-term satisfaction is not wise,” Museveni said.

The public testing event took place at Kiswa Health Center IV in Bugolobi on Friday. The President was first counseled by Dr. Diana Atwiine his personal physician before his blood sample was taken for testing.

After the exercise which took less than 5 minutes, Museveni who had turned up alone explained that he was not accompanied by his wife Janet because she had a backache. Details in Saturday Vision.
