Jimmy Sekasi graduates warned against indecent dressing

Tourism wildlife antiquities minister Maria Mutagamba has warned graduates of Jimmy Sekkasi Institute of catering against indecent dressing and use of drugs.

The Minister also warned the graduates against sports betting saying it has contributed a lot is the spoiling of the children of today. true

In a speech read for her by the undersecretary to the ministry at the 9^th graduation ceremony of Jimmy Sekkasi Institute of catering, at St Kalori Lwanga Gardens, in Gaba on Thursday, Mutagamba said that people who are in the hospitality sector are at greater risk of being lured into bad behaviors.

“HIV/Aids is still claiming lives of our young generation yet it can be avoided, the indecent way of dressing shown on TV, use of drugs are some of the things spoiling our children today and you must avoid it,” she advised.

Mutagamba also asked the graduates to persevere no matter what ups and downs may afflict them saying the road to success is not a paved one.

“It has many pitfalls and impediments and if you are searching for something that exhilarates without effort, your search is in vain,” she emphasized.

She said that although government is working towards development of the tourism product and institute legislation of the sector and market the country, this could not be achieved without a committed team to serve the sector. 

“A tourist should be welcomed with a smiling face right from the time he lands at the airport, driven to our national parks by a well-trained and hospital guide and welcomed in our hotels by smiling men and women on top of eating prepared meals,” She explained.

This she said by the end of the safari, the tourist will be able to see values for money, through care, comfort and satisfaction. 

“When I say this sector need you it is not a joke, you are the drivers and we need you alive,” she added.

Mutagamba also urged graduates not to allow their desire to succeed to dull morals and ethical sense or to be blind folding them in injustice and abuse.

“Be responsible citizens and make it your duty to concern yourselves with the moral dimension not only of what you do but the way you asses what is going around you,” she advised.

Grace Sekasi the director of the institute called for government’s support towards setting up a fully fledged hotel for training as away of building the sector. 

“Hotels in Uganda are employing graduates of UTALI College as Hotel managers, leaving most of the Ugandan graduates in lower cadre positions, with a training hotel in place Ugandans too can become great managers in the hotel industry,” She believes. 

Sekasi asked the graduates to pray an ambassadorial role in their places of work, saying they have joined the hospitality market with impeccable skills in Hotel catering and tourism management and operations.

The Area Member of parliament John Simbwa said parliament had received funds to refurbish the government crested crane hotel and tourism training centre in Jinja to allow students get the necessary skill required for competition in the industry.

Simbwa advised parents not to allow their children to be deceived by unscrupulous people pretending to give them those jobs abroad.

On behalf of the parents, Prof George Kanyeihamba advised the graduates to start up their own restaurants, bakeries, tour companies among others so as not to seek for jobs but instead employee others. 

Over 500 students were awarded diplomas and certificates in various disciplines.
