Kabaka Mutebi starts Kyaggwe tour

The Kabaka of Buganda, Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II, on Sunday started touring Kyaggwe County of Mukono and Buikwe districts.

The Kabaka arrived at Nakalere village in Goma Sub County, Mukono district, at noon where he opened up a bridge that joins Mukono district to Kira Town Council.

Here, he commended the residents for the actively participating in community service such as renovating roads, bridge and other initiatives.

“I am very pleased with you, the people of Kyaggwe. Every initiative I have visited is commendable. You should carry forward such good works and teach others how to engage in services that keep our places clean,” the Kabaka said.

From Nakalere, the Kabaka visited Kawuku Primary school in Kawuku village Kyemenyedde Sub County where he reiterated the importance of tree planting.

Here, the Kabaka launched the planting of trees to replace the lost forest in his Kingdom before proceeding to Nakifuma and Nagalama where he also planted trees.

Kabaka’s security fighting people who wanted to fall in front of his car so that he could come out and wave to them.

Kabaka’s representative in Kyaggwe (Ssekiboobo), Alex Kigongo said that this year they are planning to plant over 25 million trees in Kyaggwe County.

“After this function every member of Kyaggwe County is asked to embrace tree planting,” Kigongo said.

In his day one tour, the Kabaka paid a courtesy visit to the Archbishop of Kampala Dr. Cyprian Lwanga’s home and school in Kyabakadde village, Kyampisi Sub County.

Here, he opened a school dormitory at St Cyprian Lwanga Secondary School and also handed over a house that was constructed for an elderly woman, Rose Nakitto, 60. The  house was built by the Dr. Cyprian Lwanga foundation.

The Kabaka was told that the foundation has also constructed other houses for the elderly especially in Kyabakadde village and it soon spread wide to other areas.

In his three-day tour, the Kabaka will visit Ngogwe, Ssenyi landing site, Buikwe district headquarters and Nyenga with two messages of community services (bulungibwansi) and tree planting.

The Kabaka’s tour climaxes Tuesday with the bulungibwansi festivities at the Kyaggwe county headquarters in Ggulu Mukono district to celebrate the Buganda Independence Day. It’s here that he is expected to make address his subjects.

Arches were erected in all major trading centres along the Kampala-Kayunga and Gayaza- Kalagi roads where enthusiastic crowds lined up to welcome the Kabaka.

Youth, elderly men and women ululated as the Kabaka’s convoy drove by. Eager to hear from their king, the subjects were disappointed when he only majestically waved through the lowered window of his car as the convoy snaked away. Nonetheless, they cheered on.
