Ugandan musician Robert Ssentamu Kyagulanyi, aka Bobi Wine has been selected to work with Twaweza, a citizen-centred initiative to promote education.

Twaweza will work with producers of the Ghetto President Reality show, to promote the role of parents in improving learning outcomes for children and to raise awareness about what parents can do to follow up on capitation grant funds for Education, from the Government.

Speaking at a tour of the firebase studios this week, Rakesh Rajani, the head of Twaweza said artistes have a vital role to play in bringing about social change, particularly in expanding people’s consciousness and giving them a sense of their own power to improve learning.

“We are delighted to be able to work with Bobi Wine to promote citizen involvement in Education,” Rajani said.

Last year, Bobi Wine was recognised for demonstrating exceptional commitment to improving the lives and conditions of communities in slum areas.

Despite rising to fame, he is grounded in the experiences of ordinary Ugandans given his roots and upbringing in Kamwokya, a Kampala surburb. Bobi is also a key advocate of the role of Education in expanding people’s power and possibilities.

The partnership with Twaweza is aimed at inspiring Ugandans from all walks of life to drive forward their own development.

During the tour, Bobi said the partnership with Twaweza is a great opportunity for him to make a change in people’s lives.

“Education is what will ultimately change the course of our country and as an artiste and a father, I believe we can all make a difference in our children’s learning,” he said.

Bobi Wine will travel to slums both in Kampala and upcountry where he will speak out proactively on education issues.
